Summary

The new book from Scott Pape, the Barefoot Investor。

The Barefoot Investor: The Only Money Guide You'll Ever Need is a phenomenon, sprinting through one million copies to become one of the best selling Australian books ever。 Why is it so successful? It's simple, funny and practical。 And it has changed people's lives。 The eagerly anticipated follow-up, The Barefoot Investor for Families, sticks to the same script。 It's aimed fairly and squarely at parents, grandparents, and basically anyone who read that book and said: 'Why the hell wasn't I taught this years ago?' Scott lays out ten money milestones kids need to have nailed before they leave home, and it's all structured around one family 'money meal' each week (so roughly 20 minutes)。 If you follow the roadmap, with tailor-made lessons for each age group, your kids will know how to do things like:

∗ Learn the life-changing value of hard work ,
∗ Set up a fee-free bank account (or jam jars!) ,
∗ Go on a Treasure Hunt around the house, and sell some of their 'stuff' second-hand ,
∗ Save your parents $100 on household bills Even 。。。 ,
∗ Learn to cook at least two low-cost, delicious, nutritious meals from scratch。

Scott's mission is to make sure your kids are financially strong so they never, ever get sucked into the traps that middle-aged bankers have devised to rob them of their money and their confidence。 There are only ten things every kid needs to know about money, and you can teach them over dinner, once a week。

It's that simple。

Start now - it's never too early or too late。

Such a great book, we've adopted everything from it and the way my 9 year old handles money is better than I do as an adult! Such a great book, we've adopted everything from it and the way my 9 year old handles money is better than I do as an adult! 。。。more

Perhaps the non-family version would have been a better read for me。 Pretty basic common sense stuff but good to know what I should have been doing 18 years ago!

If you've got kids and haven't read Scott Pape's first book: The Barefoot Investor - S。T。O。P! Go get yourself a copy and ready it! Then, once you've done that, follow that up by reading this book! A great, easy to follow and digest finance book for families。 It's aimed at parents (guardians, grandparents etc) but outlines a plan to get the whole family together to create memories while also setting your kids up with the best possible financial start in life。 You'll wish someone had told you abou If you've got kids and haven't read Scott Pape's first book: The Barefoot Investor - S。T。O。P! beside Rich Dad, Poor Dad, this would be another book that we should "force" our kids to read, will probably help them a lot later in their adult life。 beside Rich Dad, Poor Dad, this would be another book that we should "force" our kids to read, will probably help them a lot later in their adult life。 。。。more

Even if I know all techniques the micro money habits are priceless I like the simplicity of the plan。It is workable and powerful。The research is done for you in terms of 10 year long term bond etc which set and forget 。I love the app he recommended to set up a portfolio for kids。I knew most of the techniques but Scott helped me to implement it in a day。

I now understand why Scott Pape's books are so popular。 I haven't read the original book but I certainly will now。 This one, directed towards parents, is full of really practical financial advice and loads of parenting hacks。 I really enjoyed reading this and highly recommend it to all parents。 Our kids are a little young (6 weeks, 2。4 yrs) but we'll be initiating some of his strategies in the future。 I now understand why Scott Pape's books are so popular。 I haven't read the original book but I certainly will now。 This one, directed towards parents, is full of really practical financial advice and loads of parenting hacks。 I really enjoyed reading this and highly recommend it to all parents。 Our kids are a little young (6 weeks, 2。4 yrs) but we'll be initiating some of his strategies in the future。 。。。more

This is a must-read, must-have book。These common sense and practical tips could save thousands of dollars of your hard-earned money over your lifetime。 Scott not only talks about money and saving, but about investing in yourself - contributing to the community, being a great worker, thinking through your options。

Wish my parents had read this! After reading his first book and being a fan, I knew I wanted to read the family guide and follow his approach once I would have kids。 My daughter is still three months old and while it's very early to implement anything, i want to keep his mindset and flip through the chapters again as she grows up。This is a must read for all parents in Australia (he tells you exactly what banks to go with / super to invest in) but there is so much good general advice on how to mak Wish my parents had read this! After reading his first book and being a fan, I knew I wanted to read the family guide and follow his approach once I would have kids。 My daughter is still three months old and while it's very early to implement anything, i want to keep his mindset and flip through the chapters again as she grows up。This is a must read for all parents in Australia (he tells you exactly what banks to go with / super to invest in) but there is so much good general advice on how to make your kids (and you) be more conscious about money。 He's calling out the big4 banks and trying to change the way finance is taught in schools。 True Aussie hero!! 。。。more

Reading this book also got me thinking about my first part-time job and when I got my first pay packet (cash in an envelope)。 I am curious know what your first job was。 。。。more

Informative book。 Certainly made me think。 Would be great if it had been more relevant to NZ as Australian superannuation is very different to ours。

I love Scott’s books。 They are full of common sense advice, written in such a way that is very easy to follow。 This book has given me a few more tasks to do to but I have confidence I’ll be able to do them。

I'm struggling a little with my ratings for this book。 On the one hand Scott is tackling a problem so prevailant in our society today - how to raise financially literate kids。 And he does it well。 Giving simple, tangible techniques, easy to follow for any parent。On the other hand, and this is the problem I personally have with this book is that this very much reads like a "one shoe fits all" solution with a whole bunch of salesy language when promoting his books。 I found that part, extremely ann I'm struggling a little with my ratings for this book。 On the one hand Scott is tackling a problem so prevailant in our society today - how to raise financially literate kids。 And he does it well。 Giving simple, tangible techniques, easy to follow for any parent。On the other hand, and this is the problem I personally have with this book is that this very much reads like a "one shoe fits all" solution with a whole bunch of salesy language when promoting his books。 I found that part, extremely annoying。 In saying that, the language is simple and easy to follow with a very hands on approach。 。。。more

Great book, more for teenagers, but I've got a 9 and 7 year old and straight away applied some of the ideas。 Working extremely well。 Very pragmatic and good advice。 Highly recommended if you have teenagers, but good for preteens as well。 Just be aware some of the book will be applicable later。 Great book, more for teenagers, but I've got a 9 and 7 year old and straight away applied some of the ideas。 Working extremely well。 Very pragmatic and good advice。 Highly recommended if you have teenagers, but good for preteens as well。 Just be aware some of the book will be applicable later。 。。。more
